I worked in public libraries until that fateful evening when I asked, “What’s next?” In many countries, libraries don’t reach their potential because they lack trained local librarians. I dreamed of a program where I could encourage and serve librarians who long to impact their communities. At Reclaim, this dream grew into Reclaim Global Libraries where through libraries we see people grow in imagination and curiosity, expand their intellectual horizons, and find hope.

We have always wanted to use our gifts to make a positive impact on the world. Reclaim invited us to explore how our education and professional experience could translate into helping serve marginalized communities. We started in Southeast Asia, and we are now in Guatemala. As part of Reclaim, whenever we start a new adventure, we feel confident and prepared. We are forever grateful that we made the decision to work with Reclaim overseas!

What would motivate a person to leave the comforts of a familiar culture and live away from closest friends and family members? It is more than a “Call.” It is the challenge to develop yourself while serving others. Living overseas has stretched us and taught us about ourselves. We love that our skills are being used to help overlooked communities. We would never trade our overseas experiences for a more comfortable experience in our own cultures. The benefits have truly far outweighed the costs!

For 20 years we developed communities through the Church in New Jersey. When we heard about families living in poverty, without running water, daily access to food, and quality education in Argentina, we embraced the opportunity to take holistic community development to the next level. We are now working with partners to serve marginalized communities locally and globally!

It depends. You can join a vision trip or a short-term projects in a few months. On average it takes between six to eighteen months to become an associate and join one of our long-term programs.

You do not need to speak the local language to become a Reclaim associate, but we places a high value on cultural awareness. Language and culture training will be part of your professional development.

There are many different ways to engage as part of the Reclaim community. We have short-term vision trips and initial assignments as well as mid-term and long-term opportunities.

At Reclaim, we focus on holistic community development. We work with local communities to address needs in agriculture, health & wellness, education, disability, and anti-human trafficking.
